The Fake News “Muslim Ban” That Isn’t

by walterm on January 29, 2017

On Friday, President Trump signed an executive order that, among other things regarding our refugee program, bars people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from traveling to the U.S. temporarily for at least the next 90 days until the U.S. can develop better vetting procedures for people from these countries. Yet this is being called a “Muslim ban” that is religiously motivated by the press, liberal commentators, and of course Democrats. Aside from the fact this was a poor implementation of policy that was not adequately vetted, there are a couple of problems with this charge. First, there are over forty Muslim countries throughout the world not affected by this order. Second, these are the exact same seven countries that Obama and Congress identified as terrorism risks in the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 signed into law on December 18, 2015 by then President Obama. So if this is a “Muslim ban,” then why did Trump choose countries already identified by Obama, and agreed upon on a bi-partisan basis by Congress? If this were truly a “Muslim ban,” then Trump would have chosen upwards to another forty countries. And by the way, didn’t Trump speak with the President of Egypt, head of Saudi Arabia, and the head of Saudi Arabia this weekend?

Due to the executive order, airports in the U.S. were instructed to add an extra layer of security for people traveling from these countries that have green cards or are legal permanent residents. The extra layer of security is not stopping people from coming into the U.S. that have a legal right to be here. Yet you would never know that or anything about the law Obama signed mentioned above if you heard the mainstream media, liberal commentators, or Democrats who are foaming at the mouth, and now we have people needlessly protesting at major airports for no good reason since they’re not people who think and verify their facts before acting. Even tech leaders are joining in on this ridiculous response to the executive order, which proves that no matter how many vast resources people may have, that doesn’t mean they will get the facts first and act on the facts. All they need to do is to read the executive order, read the Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 signed into law by Obama, and also Trump’s statement on extreme vetting. Then they might see they are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

The bottom line here is that Trump has absolutely no animus against Muslims. Muslims are our friends and neighbors here in the U.S. that are great citizens who are taking part in the American dream. But there is a problem in the Muslim world with radical Islamic jihad, and they are brutally killing people around the world in the name of Islam. The first duty of President Trump is to protect American lives, which includes Muslim Americans. Muslims around the world want to come here because they know they will be safe and can live their lives as they please with little restrictions. Yet liberal progressives always want to divide people up into victim groups and push a completely false narrative that Republicans hate not only Muslims, but blacks, homosexuals, transgender people, and “immigrants” of all kinds. They are ginning up issues and fomenting protests and violence for the sake of political gain and because they can’t accept the fact that their candidate lost. So this type of unrest is squarely on their shoulders and it is ripping this country apart. They should be ashamed to be such sore losers and in my view they are promoters of the worst kind of hate speech.
